This bespoke kitchen was a joy to design and create for our customers Claire and Andy. Working closely with Claire to design the exact idea she had in her mind, seeing it come to life was a really exciting time for all involved with the kitchen build. With our ideas and guidance, we made sure that every step of the way all the details were just right for Claire and that she felt very much in control of the the whole experience.
We first went and did the measure up six month prior to starting the build due to our workload, this gave us a lot of time in the evenings to finalise the drawings and make sure all the measurements made the best of the available space. It was decided that a white face frame shaker kitchen would be the final outcome with a simple but elegant feel, yet still incorporating all the modern amenities of a 2021 kitchen.
As with all our builds, as well as style, longevity of the kitchen was high on our priority and building with sustainable materials as much as we can. Full birch plywood cabinetry was made to ensure a lasting quality with a fresh and light feel. All our cabinets are finished with Osmo hard wax oil and polished to a smooth finish. Looking at the kitchen you can not see any of the birch plywood until you open a cabinet.
Our kitchens incorporate traditionally made shaker doors and chunky v-groove tongue and groove, all made from tulip wood. There is absolutely zero chipboard or MDF in any of our kitchens. All the shaker doors are framed in 40mm tulip wood face frame with a slight pencil round for detail. When it comes to the timber we use it is all FSC sourced with the environment in mind. This kitchen also holds a bit of a surprise, in the larder cabinet we added a wood theme using some English Ash sourced from a local saw mill and solid Ash dowels in the spice rack. This cabinet also illuminates on a PIR sensor when the doors are open and each shelf has an LED strip shining below.
There is also a feature wine rack, made using Ash dowels crossed through each other in different sizes to hold the precious goods. Having the bottles on display adds an extra level of detail and colour to the kitchen and we love the look. On the opposite side of the wine rack there are solid Ash lap trays fitted with Downsing and Reynolds leather straps for the long day at work, in front of the telly meal. We have all done it.
The Fisher and Paykel American style fridge freezer had a bespoke housing made so it is flush with the doors and sits above the skirting board. This was important for Andy and Claire as this area was a through-fare and the space needed to be easy to pass through. With a traditional Belfast sink and a Perrin and Rowe bridge tap the look was complete. A simple style of Aberesque quarts worktop was fitted with From the Anvil handles.
Finally the colour. This is Flake White by Fired Earth that has been sprayed finished on all the tulip wood and in the open cabinets. This is an off white with a subtle hint of grey, very moody and an absolutely fantastic choice by our customer.
A handmade kitchen that will be enjoyed for years to come and still look as stylish as the day it was created. We left a bottle of Moet for the first cheers in there new kitchen as a thank you to Andy and Claire for an enjoyable working relationship.
